And Just Like That season 3 potential release date, cast and everything you need to know (2024)

And Just Like That... spoilers follow.

And Just Like That... season three is officially in production.

The good news was shared on Instagram by Sarah Jessica Parker, who wrote: "Here. We. Go. X, SJ," under a close-up image of the script and Parker's name plaque at a table read for the third instalment.

The lead actress for the Sex and the City spin-off also tagged fellow cast mates Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, alongside Mario Cantone, Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita Choudhury.

Love it or love to hate it, there's no denying many will be excited to see the return of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York Goldenblatt sipping cocktails, bemoaning their irritating children and wearing outfits that very few of us could ever possibly afford.

However, there are a few faces who didn't make the call list the third time around.

With And Just Like That season three now in production, fans are that much closer to that converted release date.

Work on the third series began in May 2024 and was announced on Instagram by Parker herself. But, what does this mean for the third season's debut?

Season one premiered in December 2021, and it was just over a year before viewers were able to get their hands on the second instalment, which aired from June to August 2023.

While And Just Like That season three isn't due to arrive any time soon given that filming has only just begun, fans may be reunited with Carrie and co. sooner this time around.

The good news is that And Just Like That is not the type of show that warrants a lengthy post-production process, so it's very possible that it could return in early 2025. Fingers crossed.

And Just Like That season 3 cast: Which characters will be back?

And Just Like That has announced the exits of both Sara Ramírez's Che Diaz and Karen Pittman's Nya Wallace.

No official reason was given for Ramírez's departure, though it is understood that the door is being left open for them to return in future guest appearances and cameos.

Pittman's exit most likely comes as much less of a surprise. Her role in season two was pared back due to scheduling conflicts with The Morning Show and new Netflix show Forever, which have now prevented her from returning altogether.

A spokesperson for Max stated: "Due to [Karen's] commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn't possible. Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That…

"It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…"

Speaking on both exits, co-star Choudhury said she would "miss seeing them on set," but "I know they're doing other things now, so I'm happy for them."

Their loss does make way for a series newcomer – comedian and actor Rosie O'Donnell, who joins the cast as Mary.

O'Donnell shared a social post showing a photo of the season three script followed by another of her in character as Mary, wearing a grey bob. She captioned it: "Here comes mary #andjustlikethat @hbo."

Much to our bitter disappointment, it's highly unlikely that Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) will be appearing on screen for anything more than her very short guest spot.

Patrick King noted how special the moment was — while very much making it seem like a one-off.

He said: "All of a sudden, it manifested that Kim was like: 'I'll play Samantha for you for this little, sweet treat.' So, I don't know whether it's about the nostalgia for the 25th, which is great. For me, it's a great treat for the fans."

Samantha will likely still be a presence, though — whether through the odd text message to Carrie or throwback photos in Charlotte's closet.

We can, of course, expect the rest of our core four back in the next season. After all, what would SATC be without Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her forever-growing shoe collection, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and her no-nonsense attitude, or Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and her sometimes-sassy monologues?

We still feel that Samantha-hole whenever the girls get together, so we don't think we could take another exit, thank you very much.

Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) may or may not be back, given the odd five-year wait that was introduced in his and Carrie's relationship in the season two finale. Whether he returns in future episodes will likely depend on the timeline and where season three picks up, as well as whether or not they can make it that long without breaking up (or meeting someone else).

"They made a promise to each other, and he said: 'Nothing bad is going to happen.' That wasn't a goodbye. That was a 'see ya sometime'. They were still very much connected at the end," King explained during an interview with Variety.

"The way they played it was it wasn't tragic. And they were still very much alive, and they had that whole night where they laughed and cried and made love, or did whatever they did. But it ended kind of in a grown-up understanding of here's where we are."

Steve Brady (David Eigenberg) also feels like a bit of a question mark, having embarked on a new venture in Coney Island. That being said, his deep and meaningful conversation with Miranda on the pier, which saw her extending an olive branch and declaring that she wants him in her life in some way, does keep that door open a little. But just as friends.

Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) and Anthony (Mario Cantone) are also just part of the furniture at this point. Plus, we want to see how things go with Anthony's Italian boyfriend.

Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) has fast become a fan favourite, along with her beloved Birkin bag, and we're fully invested in Lisa Todd Wexley's (Nicole Ari Parker) documentary series (while husband Herbert, played by Chris Jackson, is also there).

We suppose that all the kids – including Brady Hobbes (Niall Cunningham), Lily Goldenblatt (Cathy Ang) and Rock Goldenblatt (Alexa Swinton) – will also come back, unless Lisa and Herbert's one-episode summer camp decides to extend throughout the year.

Unfortunately, we can't get too ahead of ourselves.

We'll have to wait until much closer to the time before any footage of the new episodes is available. That said, we're sure that filming pictures will alert us to any important incoming storylines (Aidan and Carrie taking a couples' trip to IKEA, for example).

And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City, airs on Max in the US, and Sky Comedy and NOW in the UK.
