Well, there's both good and bad news on this front. While season 3 has officially been given the green light, Max confirmed the release date window in its annual One to Watch trailer – and unfortunately the next instalment is a little way off.
The divisive series, starring original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, launched back onto our screens for a second season in June 2023.
But who will be back for season 3 and what could happen? Read on for everything you need to know about the next instalment of And Just Like That.
And Just Like That season 3 release date speculation
Max has confirmed that season 3 won’t arrive until 2025.
The delay is likely due to the now-resolved actors’ and writers’ strikes in Hollywood.
The news comes in the wake of the announcement in November that writers have returned to the writers’ room to begin work on season 3 following the conclusion of the strikes.
The series was officially renewed for a third season in August.
"We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex and the City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors," said executive producer and showrunner Michael Patrick King at the time.
"And Just Like That... here comes season 3."
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for Max, added: "We are delighted to share that since the launch of season 2, And Just Like That… ranks as the #1 Max Original overall, and is the most-watched returning Max Original to date.
"We raise our cosmos to Michael Patrick King and his magnificent team of writers, producers, cast and crew who continue to charm us, 25 years later, with dynamic friendships and engaging stories. We cannot wait for audiences to see where season three will take our favourite New Yorkers."

While Samantha (Kim Cattrall) appeared in the season 2 finale for an extremely brief and immensely anti-climatic phone conversation with Carrie (honestly, why include it at all?), Cattrall said of her AJLT future (via Today), "This is as far as I'm going to go," adding, "I don't think I'll ever say goodbye to Samantha.
"She's like a lot of other characters that I've done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I'm so appreciative of her."
Other characters who are likely to return for season 3 include:
- John Corbett as Aidan Shaw
- Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel
- Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley
- Sara Ramírez as Che Diaz
- Karen Pittman as Dr Nya Wallace
- Mario Cantone as Anthony Marentino
- Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt
- David Eigenberg as Steve Brady

What could happen in And Just Like That season 3?
Carrie and Aidan wanted to make their rekindled romance work, but juggling their relationship with his commitment to his children wasn't workable, at least for the time being.
After his 14-year-old son Wyatt crashed his car while driving back to the farmhouse in Norfolk, Aidan decided that he needed to be present for his kids at all times, which meant no more trips to New York. As a compromise, Carrie offered to travel to his neck of the woods instead, but Aidan wasn't a fan of that idea either, leaving them in a sticky situation.
As he left Carrie's shiny new townhouse to head back home, the pair were very much still together, but they wouldn't be able to kick on fully until Wyat was "out of his teens" – that's in FIVE YEARS TIME, people – which raises plenty of questions about how season 3 will look for the couple.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, King explained that development: "We are now building the case for what becomes the plot of what we decided to do the entire second season which is: we're bringing Aidan back, she's not going to hurt him because she knows she can't — and we also don't want the fans to think we did that again — so he's going to hurt her. And the only way we knew that he would ever pull away from her is if the bigger love — and every parent would assume that this is a bigger love — is the responsibility and your love for your children."
Speaking to Variety about how that puzzle impacts the show moving forwards, King said: "It gives us more story. It gives us an open end. It gives us a complicated problem. It gives us space. It gives Carrie a big thing to think about.
"What it gives us is a problem that we have to figure out: how Carrie Bradshaw finds her way through this to love."
Elsewhere, Charlotte is now working at Mark Kasabian's art gallery and she's killing it, with the penultimate episode seeing her sell a painting to singer Sam Smith. Her entry back into the working world wasn't entirely smooth-sailing due to the demands of having a family, but she made it clear to Harry that she's not prepared to give it up, which means he needs to step up when it comes to their kids and the running of their household.
As for Miranda, she's dipped her toe back into the legal world and is now working maternity cover for her boss at Human Rights Watch, having been upgraded from an intern because she's Just. That. Good.
Now she's back in the game and clearly enjoying herself – she was invited to speak on the BBC in the finale – we can't see her slowing down, which is music to our ears. After a rocky start, Miranda is back.
As for her love life, her relationship with Che is officially dead and buried, particularly after the comic's comeback gig, which might have put Miranda off dating for a while, but hopefully she'll meet someone who's a better fit. And she's also taken steps to rebuild a friendship with Steve, which isn't the dream fans of SATC had for the pair, but it's certainly better than them being at war with one another.
